Hot Hollywood Eyelash Extensions Revealed

by: Michelle Bouse

Eyelash extensions are the new natural eye. Everyone in Hollywood is talking about these lashes and everyone wants them. With the right application you can’t even tell they are not your own lashes!

How They Work:

An individual hair, usually synthetic, is bonded with a glue adhesive to your own natural lash. One lash at a time. This increases the length and width of your own lash, giving the illusion of a thicker, fuller, longer set of lashes.

You Need Less Makeup:

The lashes are so natural and usuallly black, they darken your own lash line. They curl your own lashes and thicken the width of each lash they are glued to. The need for mascara and an eyelash curler is eliminated! Did you ever think that was possible?!

No Damage to Your Lashes:

With a great application, you might have to trim your lashes (yes, I said trim)! The extensions bond around your own lash, actually protecting them from wear and tear, allowing your lash to continue to grow. As you own lashes grow, so will the extensions. Our lashes have 100 day life cycle. As one falls out, another grows in its place. This is why it is important to go to a certified artist, so the lashes are placed correctly (on short - medium length lashes for a longer life), preventing damage to the natural lash.

Checklist Before You Book Your Appointment:

Make sure your technician is a certified eyelash artist (ask to see a certification). Check to see if there is any scent to the glue adhesive. Some are so strong the fumes will irritate your eyes causing discomfort during the service. Suggest a consultation to meet with the artist. Ask to see before and after pictures of their work and have a patch test done for glue sensitivity (should be for 24 hours). It is easier to know if you are allergic to the glue before having a 2 hour service performed.

How Much They Cost:

Treatments range from $250-$450 for a full set of lashes. A full set is about 30-50 lashes on each eye, varying on artist. The first application will be between 1.5 - 2 hours long. They last up to 2 months... but better if you have regular touch-ups every 2-3 weeks. Minimum touch-up should be at least once a month. You can expect to pay between $50-$100 for each touch-up and the appointment is usually 1 hour.

Proper Home Care & TLC:

Within the first 24 hours of service, no water should directly touch the lashes. The glue takes about 24-48 hours to completely set. No swimming or steam within the first 2 days. Always avoid make-up removers with oil or alcohol anywhere around the eyelash line. Also avoid eye creams near the upper eye lid. Do not rub your eye, gently pat or dab your eyes only. No tinting or perming lashes with the extensions on. Use of an eyelash curler could break the lashes so skip it.

Remember, the better you care for the extensions, the longer they will last!
